BREAKING: Coalition of students forms after controversial CR event in hopes of punishing "offensive" speech.

UPDATE: The coalition of students plans to make an allegation that the College Republicans STOLE the Hamas flag used in the protest from an undisclosed group or individual. They will further claim that the student who rushed the CR's table and stole the Flag was simply "retrieving his property." This is obviously untrue and is presumably a tactic designed to plant a seed of doubt.

An anonymous source from inside the Palestinian Club and the Socialist club at SFSU has provided the College Republicans with the following information:

In response to the College Republican's anti-Hamas event (video below) held on Wednesday the "offended parties" have banded together to push the school to punish the College Republicans for throwing shoes at the Hamas Flag. Over the next few days the coalition will release a statement making the following demands:

-Authorities must drop all charges pending against Muhammad Abdullah and Jeremy Stern, the two protestors that assaulted the College Republicans and stole their property.

-The school must sanction/punish the College Republicans for throwing shoes at the Hamas flag.

-The groups must organize a forum to "educate" students about what forms of speech are not acceptable according to the offended parties, specifically the always ambiguous "hate speech."

So far we've confirmed that the General Union of Palestinian Students and Muslim Student Association are the main players in the push to ban/punish forms of speech that could potentially offend students. By characterizing "offensive" speech as hate speech they will demand that the school implement new rules to "keep this from happening again."

SFSU College Republicans,
I am very proud of you all standing up against these one sided hate-mongers. You stand on that damn Hamas flag whenever you want to....
Infact cut it out and glue it to the bottom of your shoes.
The irate muslim students can dish it out but certainly can't take it!

I'm non the biggest fan of the college republicans but I hope that you wipe the floor with these murderous racists. Hamas is by design and charter, an explicitly antisemitic organization that accepts the Protocols as real and calls for the death of Jews in Israel as a "good start." Defenders of Hamas, including self-hating "as-a-Jews" are antisemites and enablers of them. Similarly Hamas stands for an anti-gay agenda (not just keeping them from getting married), are rabidly anti trade union and pretty much everything that left wingers who claim to be progressive should abhor - unless they're killing Jews. Grab that bag of bones and don't let go of it. This means that you will be the champions of not just classical liberalism but modern liberalism. Enjoy the view (and the irony!), not to mention watching your adversaries become the very fascist slime they wrongly accuse you of being every other day of the year.

I'm also assuming that you weren't dumb enough to take the flag, so you have to first clearly articulate how you came about getting one (handicraft, purchase etc). The meme that you took someone else's flag is spreading and you need to bash it down hard.

Then you have to leverage the antisemetic hate group that is Hamas. For apologists including Jewish ones (who are hoping to be killed last), the argument that Hamas is a social justice group is like saying that the Nazi party was all about the economic reform of the Weimar economy. Make sure they are presented for what they really are.

Good luck guys.

I just read about this in the FIRE newsletter. Good job guys... since apparently our schools don't do a very good job of educating students on what free speech is all about (as evidenced by how many people think there's a difference between lawful "free speech" and unlawful "hate speech"), I'm glad you're around to give a genuine lesson.

I hope you continue to have anti-Hama rallies in the future, and continue to desecrate all the flags you like. Maybe eventually people will understand that the First Amendment applies even to speech and expression that they find offensive.
